"GAS PHANTOM"    (view)
I wasn't able to find anything in a book about these, but as for the look of them... the faces have a sort of gassous-tree-like looking spray going like spreading fingers from bottom to top (base of triangle to tip).  My friend, Jay, who is a crystal mine owner, said that they are supposed to have every other face with the marking, one with the spray, one clear, one spray, one clear, etc...   They tend to have heavy etching on the faces.  This is the technical description Jay was able to give me, "...gas is present when the quartz is forming.  The gas exploding during formation causes the gas patterns on the faces."  Whatever the technical part, I think they are really cool looking.

SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT THE GAS PHANTOMS

For those of you familiar with these great crystals, I have some new info...  I was recently informed that the gas sprays aren't actually titanium as I was told when I was first introduced to them.  Aparently titanium turns to gas at 5000+ degrees and crystal MELTS at 3000+ degrees... so scientifically, the sprays can't possibly be  caused by titanium gas.

HOWEVER... that having been said... they still have the same unique energy and feel, and I contend that they have just been given the wrong name, on a scientific basis... I will be referring to them as GAS PHANTOMS from here on out, simply omitting the Titanium.

Whether or not the phantoms and sprays are caused by an actual gas, or a fluid that appears to be a gas, I don't have the slightest idea.  I just know they have a great energy, look and feel.

I haven't found reference to these marks in any crystal book, but have developed my own idea as to what they signify.  [this comes from me, too] I believe that crystals with imprints show how something is affected by outside influences, thereby changing the shape or form of the original structure, but the original structure adapts to its environment to allow for growth and change, while still maintaining its basic inherent truth and beauty.

"INCLUSIONS" (view)
When one is attracted to and uses included quartz, the quartz inclusion will work with the person to provide the further nourishment and qualities required.  Usually the chlorite and hematite included quartz provide the most powerful healing-type of included quartz.*

SLATE INCLUDED:
I was told by a mine owner early on in my digging "career" that most of the inclusions in the crystal from the mines I gather crystal from are Manganese inclusions.  However, since then, I have read that a lot of the inclusions in the crystal in the Ouachitas may in fact be SLATE.  (Reading books about geology and geological topography in the Arkansas region, mineralogical deposits and such).  With that having been said, I haven't found "Slate" listed in a book (such as Melody's, but I think slate is a form of Chert.   These are just educated guesses.  Take them for what they are... not facts or definites.  If you are reading this and know something different, write and tell me!  I love to learn!!
Melody lists Chert as a form of Chalcedony (pronounced Cal-SID-on-ee) which resembles flint but more brittle.  Can be used to provide stability and to assist in remembering (daily issues or to "look back"  to the past or the past lives, or to help find lost items.  This is for Chert, keep in mind.

"RUTILATED CRYSTAL" 
Rutile crystallizes in the form of prismatic crystals, or in this case, as needle-like crystals. 


It is a MINERAL, not a VERB as I thought previously!  (Like Tourmaline is a mineral that when in crystal for example, is called "tourmalinated")


Initially we thought Sammy's crystals were chlorite rutiles, but this was mis-education... so if you've been led here from a link or just here by chance for info, now you know what is meant by "Chlorite Rutiles" if you read it somewhere on the pages, it isn't.  These crystals are Chlorite INCLUDED and the inclusions are needle shaped.  (confusing at best!!)


For a crystal to be called "rutilated", it has to be included with needles of the mineral "Rutile".
