QUARTZ CRYSTAL REVERSE
PHANTOM POINTS known of as
Quartz crystal points with a layer of milky quartz coating a very
clear crystal point inside. A rare crystal variety usually found
in Colorado, these come from a mine in Mt. Ida Arkansas. For
Sale! "OVERCOAT QUARTZ" and also "SNOW QUARTZ" The following crystals are very interesting. I didn't know what they were, the mine owner wasn't sure, he called them simply "ivory crystals" and didn't really know anything about the mineralogy of them. While checking one of my books (about something quite off subject, of course) I FOUND a description of the crystal. In Rockhounding Arkansas by Darcy and Mike Howard (complete reference below) they are described like this: They are apparently a type of reverse phantom... a "creamy white layer of milky quartz" that formed on the OUTSIDE of clear quartz. Mike Howard, a geologist, states in this book that Art Smith*, another geologist friend of his said that these were usually only found in Colorado, but they have since been found in at least two places in Arkansas. Art called them "Snow Crystals" but Mike preferred "Overcoat Quartz". I figure whatever you call them, they are beautiful. I am assuming they are relatively rare since they are only found in the two places in Arkansas. Of course, this is only an assumption on my part based on the information I have available to me. The characteristics I have found almost all of them to have is that the insides are very very water clear (you can look up through most of the bases, or if there is any mine damage or imprints, you can see through the milky coating to reveal the insides. The other thing is that they all have lots of rainbows. Both on the insides as well as on the outer layers of the faces, an iridescent sheen. The energy is soft and subtle. This is a nice overcoat
crystal with a faint layer of coating,
making it silky to the touch. The overcoat
characteristics don't show well in the photo and for
some reason the front center looks damaged to me, (and
I know it isn't) so if you are seeing the same thing
I am, it is a trick of the lighting. This is a nice
point with crisp edges. The base is narrowed to a point
due to imprints from other crystals and there is a really
cool rainbow inside that is almost hiding that reminds me of
a curtain inside that you see behind the overcoat from certain
angles only.

CLEAR 0372 $21.00 This is a large overcoat crystal.
It is empathic, I took a picture of the crystal from
the back view to get a shot of the empathic area. It is a ding,
pictured. It shows the internal clarity, however. This
overcoat has more fairy frost than most, though,
you can see that through the base, which is not self healed. It
has some really excellent rainbows which can
be seen through imprints made in the coating. It
has the "sugar druzy" on many of the sides.

CLEAR 0374 $13.00 This crystal is an overcoat with a
piggyback crystal attached, partially complete. There is an
imprint where the remainder of the crystal used to be. The
main crystal is characteristically absolutely water clear, you can see
this where the overcoat layer is missing (through the windows
the imprints leave). The main crystal is a Dow.
The picture is taken of the back view of this crystal to
show the imprint and the back edge of the piggyback crystal.

shaped crystal that is water clear inside
and also has the iridescent sheen. It has
a few imprints and a couple of small empathic
areas.

This is an overcoat crystal
with a deep key on one side that reveals a milky
spot that appears to be a broken off end of a bridge
and another shallow key that reveals a clear inside.
There is sparkily druzy, yellowish in color.

CLEAR0R $8.00 This is a very
water clear crystal with overcoat layers in the
striations on the sides of the crystal and a little
bit in some of the etching on the faces. The whole
crystal looks empathic, but that is the overcoat looking
like dings. It is empathic
in that the point is not crisp, it is worn off just enough to be
slightly rounded, not pointy sharp. You can see that in
the photo. It has one excellent round key
and one oblong key.

tabby crystal with a large bridge outcropping
that is really only just the base of the crystal.
The backside of the point is a large imprint.
It has a baby inner child

CLEAR0O $19.00 This is a channeler
with an empathic area on the main
face, you can see it in the photo, the area on the left
side of the face, the shape that sort of mirrors the
shape of my thumb in the white area (that isn't white) that
is a chip. The white is the "fish scale" configuration,
it is smooth on the surface, remember. This crystal
has two really deep keys, one at the base, but the
really excellent one is up , there by my thumb... excellent...
stair-stepped down, etc. really cool. Some drusy...
